Volkswagen has commenced series production of the Tayron, its latest SUV, at the Wolfsburg plant. The Tayron, which offers a seven-seat option and next-generation hybrid engines, becomes the fourth model produced at the world’s largest car factory, joining the Golf, Tiguan, and Touran.
The launch was marked by a ceremony attended by employees and plant leaders, including Wolfsburg Plant Manager Uwe Schwartz and Works Council member Jürgen Mahnkopf.

Schwartz praised the collaborative effort that ensured production began on schedule, despite the complexities of integrating the Tayron into Assembly Line 4 alongside ongoing Tiguan production.
The Tayron, Volkswagen’s second-largest SUV in Europe after the Touareg, will debut in showrooms in March 2025. Initially available with seven engine options, including two plug-in hybrids boasting over 100 km of electric range, the model is poised to attract buyers across Europe.
Jürgen Mahnkopf highlighted the Tayron’s importance for Wolfsburg, describing it as a milestone for the site and a key contributor to job security. “Customers in China are already excited about this car, and it will find strong demand in Europe as well,” he noted.
The first Tayron to roll off the line, a striking Ultra Violet Metallic model with a 2.0-litre TDI engine, will soon be joined by demonstrator vehicles for dealerships. Volkswagen’s new SUV reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation and efficiency, with production teams overcoming challenging conditions to meet launch targets.
