Christine Wolburg, former Head of Sales and Marketing at Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), will become Volkswagen’s first-ever Chief Brand Officer (CBO) on April 1, 2025.
Reporting directly to CEO Thomas Schäfer, she will lead the development and implementation of a unified global brand experience strategy, ensuring consistency across all customer touchpoints.

Wolburg, who brings extensive expertise from both the automotive and transportation sectors, will oversee brand governance and marketing, taking over from Susanne Franz, who will transition to another role within the group.
Schäfer emphasized that her appointment aligns with Volkswagen’s goal of becoming the world’s leading volume manufacturer in technology by 2030.
With a background in marketing and a career spanning Mercedes-Benz and Smart, Wolburg’s role will connect key areas like design, vehicle strategy, digital business, and communications to elevate Volkswagen’s brand experience worldwide.
