Aston Martin has unveiled the Valkyrie hypercar as its latest contender for endurance racing, marking the brand’s return to the top tier of motorsport with ambitions of securing its first overall Le Mans victory since 1959.

The Valkyrie, the only hypercar derived from a road-legal model, will compete in both the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2025.

The works Aston Martin THOR Team will enter two Valkyries in WEC, debuting at the Qatar 1812Km on February 28, with the #007 and #009 cars driven by a strong lineup including Harry Tincknell, Tom Gamble, Marco Sørensen, and Alex Riberas.

In IMSA, Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis will lead the Valkyrie’s GTP class challenge, also joining the WEC squad for Le Mans.

The Valkyrie hypercar, developed by Aston Martin Performance Technologies and THOR, features a track-optimized version of its 6.5-litre Cosworth-built V12 engine, tuned for endurance racing efficiency while retaining its high-revving character.

With aerodynamics rooted in its road-going counterpart and adapted for FIA regulations, the car has undergone extensive global testing, surpassing 15,000km across circuits in Europe, the Middle East, and the U.S.

Aston Martin’s endurance motorsport chief, Adam Carter, emphasized the car’s fusion of Formula 1-inspired technology and road-car engineering, making it a unique entry in the hypercar class.

The team has focused on optimizing fuel efficiency and aerodynamics while maintaining the Valkyrie’s signature V12 performance.

THOR team principal Ian James praised the program’s progress and the seamless integration of design, manufacturing, and racing operations. The WEC Valkyries will carry a classic Aston Martin green livery, while the IMSA entry will sport THOR’s signature blue.

The Valkyrie will compete against well-established rivals in what is considered a golden era for endurance racing, with WEC’s eight-round season including Le Mans, Spa, Fuji, and Bahrain, while IMSA’s 11-round calendar features Sebring, Petit Le Mans, and Indianapolis. Despite the challenge, Aston Martin is determined to make its mark at the pinnacle of endurance motorsport.
