PLANO, Texas — Toyota has announced the return of the GR86 Hakone special edition for the 2025 model year, paying homage to Japan’s renowned Hakone Turnpike. This special edition, featuring a striking Ridge Green exterior, will arrive at Toyota dealerships in Fall 2024, offering a modern take on a classic design.
Enhanced Performance and Dynamics
The 2025 GR86 Hakone special edition is built on the GR86 Premium grade and offers a choice between a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is powered by a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine delivering 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft of torque. The updated throttle mapping and retuned shocks enhance the vehicle’s response and handling dynamics, providing a more engaging driving experience. The special edition also comes with 18-inch satin bronze-finished wheels, a color-keyed duck-tail spoiler, and a distinctive Hakone badge.

Interior and Special Features
Inside, the GR86 Hakone special edition boasts Ultrasuede® sport seats with tan leather trim and stitching. Additional interior features include a special edition shift knob with bronze accents and a GR special edition plaque. Standard equipment includes Brembo® brakes and SACHS dampers, ensuring top-notch performance and handling.
Limited Production and Availability
Only 860 units of the GR86 Hakone special edition will be produced for the U.S. market. The vehicle, along with other GR86 grades, will be available at Toyota dealerships starting Fall 2024. Pricing for the GR86 Hakone special edition and the complete 2025 GR86 lineup will be announced later this year.
GR Engineering and Safety Features
The 2025 GR86 includes advanced engineering from Toyota GAZOO Racing, such as re-tuned shock absorbers and electric power steering for improved handling and responsiveness. Safety features on all GR86 models include Toyota’s Star Safety System™, Active Safety Suite, and Connected Services with trials for Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect.
Warranty and ToyotaCare
Toyota’s 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty covers all components except normal wear and maintenance items. Additional warranties include a 60-month powertrain warranty for 60,000 miles and a corrosion warranty with no mileage limitation. ToyotaCare provides no-cost factory-scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years, unlimited mileage.
