Toyota Tests New Land Cruiser’s Toughness with Star-Studded Challenge

Toyota has put its new Land Cruiser to the ultimate test in a daring marketing campaign featuring award-winning actor Hilary Swank and actor/comedian Jimmy O.

Yang. The campaign, centered around a three-minute short film titled the “Land Cruiser Get Back Challenge,” showcases the vehicle’s rugged capabilities in a series of adventurous scenarios.

The short film begins dramatically with helicopters dropping Land Cruisers onto a snowy embankment. Hilary Swank, accompanied by her friend Deon Taylor, and Jimmy O. Yang, with his father Richard Ouyang, remove their blindfolds to discover their trucks ready for action. From there, each team takes a unique path back to civilization, navigating various obstacles and challenging terrains.

Equipped with a satellite phone as a last resort, Team Jimmy ventures into mountainous regions, while Team Hilary traverses the high desert. Swank expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I love the outdoors and I love trucks. Driving the new Toyota Land Cruiser in the Land Cruiser Get Back Challenge was a blast! I ended up on a really rocky and muddy course during the Challenge and the Land Cruiser adapted over everything incredibly well.”

Throughout the journey, participants experience the Land Cruiser’s ruggedness firsthand. Hilary and Deon use the Multi-Terrain Monitor system for additional guidance while tackling steep mountain grades and rely on the iFORCE MAX powertrain and Full-Time 4WD in muddy conditions.

Jimmy O. Yang highlighted the bonding experience with his father amidst the challenging environment. “It was a challenge of a lifetime to survive my dad’s complaints in the wilderness,” Yang quipped. Despite the difficulties, he cherished the father-son bonding moments. They navigated packed snow using features like Multi-Terrain Select and crawl control.

Toyota aims to showcase the Land Cruiser’s legendary durability and capability to a new generation of adventurers. “It was great to watch Hilary Swank and Jimmy O. Yang put the new Land Cruiser to the test,” said Mike Tripp, Toyota Marketing group vice president. “Land Cruiser retains its legendary capability, and we are excited for the world to experience the next edition of this iconic SUV.”

The campaign not only highlights the Land Cruiser’s off-road prowess but also ties back to its rich history. Since its launch in 1958, the Land Cruiser has been synonymous with reliability and durability, setting the standard for Toyota trucks.
