The Toyota Prius has achieved a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the lowest fuel consumption during a coast-to-coast drive across the U.S.
Hypermiler Wayne Gerdes drove a Prius LE from Los Angeles to New York, averaging 93.158 MPG over 3,211.7 miles, surpassing the previous record in the mid-70s MPG range.
Despite challenging terrain and weather, including desert heat and mountain elevations, the Prius showcased its renowned efficiency.

Toyota’s VP of vehicle marketing, Michael Tripp, praised the car as an “engineering marvel” that continues to exceed expectations.
This world record adds to the latest generation Prius’ impressive list of awards, including Car and Driver’s 10Best and MotorTrend Car of the Year.
Launched in 2023, the new Prius offers a sleek design, upgraded technology, and up to 57 MPG combined. Toyota remains committed to carbon neutrality, with a diverse lineup of electrified vehicles.
