Toyota and Lexus Customers to Gain Access to Expanding DC Fast Charger Network
Toyota Motor North America has announced its investment in IONNA, joining seven other major automakers in supporting the development of a comprehensive high-powered charging network for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) across North America. This collaboration aims to install at least 30,000 charging ports by 2030, providing Toyota and Lexus customers with access to IONNA’s growing public network of DC fast chargers, compatible with both NACS and CCS connectors.
“We are excited to announce our support of IONNA to deploy DC fast chargers throughout the U.S. and Canada,” said Ted Ogawa, president and CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “We believe this will not only promote the adoption of BEVs and increase customer confidence in the technology, but it will provide our Toyota and Lexus customers with access to IONNA’s rapidly growing charging network in North America.”

IONNA’s initiative is to enhance the overall customer experience, ensuring that charging stations offer amenities and convenience along with vehicle charging. The first batch of DC fast charging stations is set to go live in 2024, with further expansion planned throughout the decade.
“We are delighted to welcome Toyota to our growing IONNA family,” said Seth Cutler, CEO of IONNA. “Their vision for the future of electric mobility in North America aligns perfectly with our mission to push the boundaries for the highest standards of quality, reliability, and customer experience. This partnership marks another significant achievement of many to come in our joint journey to transform EV charging and spearhead the adoption of sustainable transportation in North America.”
Toyota’s support for IONNA highlights the collective effort of eight major OEMs, including BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, to build a robust public charging network. Toyota currently offers two mass-market BEVs in the U.S. and Canada – the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. The company plans to introduce two all-new three-row BEV SUVs, assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing plants in Kentucky and Indiana. By 2030, Toyota aims to offer 30 BEV models globally and produce up to 3.5 million BEVs annually.
Toyota’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is reflected in its long history of developing electrified vehicles, from the Prius hybrid to the Mirai fuel cell vehicle. The company directly employs over 63,000 people in North America and operates 12 manufacturing plants, with a 13th plant in North Carolina set to begin manufacturing automotive batteries for electrified vehicles by 2025.
