Choosing a color for a new car is one of the most enjoyable decisions, yet it can also be quite challenging, especially when the options are all stunning and equally striking. For Polestar 3, the public has made their preferences clear. With an impressive 39 percent of configured cars, one color stands out above the rest.
Talking Polestar 3 Colors
Polestar 3, the new electric SUV, offers a selection of muted, modern exterior colors. The palette ranges from the crisp white ‘Snow’ to the powerful black ‘Space’.
Between these two extremes are four more distinctive colors: the subtle and smooth ‘Magnesium’, the playfully energetic ‘Jupiter’, the rich and mysterious ‘Midnight’, and the encapsulated power of ‘Thunder’.
We spoke with Maximilian Missoni, Polestar’s Head of Design, to understand the design philosophy behind these exterior colors and to find out his personal favorite.

Standing Out in Monochrome
Polestar enthusiasts will notice that the brand often uses black, white, and grey in its ads and products, with vibrant colors used sparingly. “Polestar has a very monochromatic color palette.
It’s high in contrast, which means we use a lot of black and white, and then there is a very subdued and monochromatic look to our products, which is very much on purpose,” says Maximilian.
This monochromatic identity, initiated by Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath and Head of Brand Pär Heyden, is a response to the overstimulated, colorful world around us.
In bustling cities, where vibrant displays are common, Polestar chose to stand out with a high-contrast, monochromatic palette. This decision naturally extended to their cars, which feature calm, muted exterior colors with distinct details.
“It was a very pragmatic decision, choosing this color scheme,” says Maximilian. “Complementing the body color with golden seat belts, golden valve caps, the typography, the markings, is what really elevates it to a design theme, rather than just a coincidence.”
Modern Luxury Through Restraint
Scandinavian modern luxury is characterized by restraint, curated choices, subdued colors, and natural materials. This philosophy resonates with the Polestar brand, which finds its affinity in this space. Maximilian notes that consumers tend to prefer these subtle colors over more vibrant options.
The Public’s Favorite Color
As of June 2024, the public’s top color choice for the Polestar 3 is ‘Magnesium’, with 39 percent of configurations opting for this silky-smooth, subtle hue.
Maximilian’s Favorites
Maximilian has two favorite colors for the Polestar 3: ‘Space’ and ‘Snow’. “I think Space is a good color for Polestar 3. Considering the size of this car and the stance, you want to use the contrast in the design to your advantage. I think black does that very well for this car,” he explains.
Colors He’d Avoid
When asked about colors he’d never want to see on a Polestar, Maximilian is diplomatic. “There is a whole range of highly saturated, less sophisticated colors that I would not really like to see on Polestars. However, I can definitely imagine a Polestar in red, so color is not completely out of the question,” he admits. He appreciates colors that are specific to a brand, like British Racing Green for British cars and red for Italian brands. For Polestar, white is that defining color.
