A Pokémon-themed Volkswagen Beetle, aptly named the ‘Pikabug,’ has hit the market for an eye-popping £100,000. This unique vehicle, designed to resemble the beloved Pokémon character Pikachu, is one of the original ten promotional cars purchased by Nintendo in the 90s as part of the “Poké Patrol.”
These distinctive cars were utilized to promote the release of the Pokémon games and the animated TV series across the United States.
Equipped with a sound system connected to an exterior speaker, the Pikabug could play Pikachu sounds, bringing the character to life. The custom cars also featured wooden ears and a tail to complete Pikachu’s iconic look.

In the hatch of the car, a TV screen connected to a Nintendo 64 allowed fans to stop and play their favorite Pokémon games, making the Pikabug a true mobile gaming hub.
This particular Pikabug, now listed for sale in Madison, Wisconsin, has only 17,000 miles on the clock, despite being owned for several years. Kerry Kilsmith, the current owner, expressed mixed emotions about parting with the car. “Thank you to the Nintendo and Pokémon lovers who have shared their love and appreciation for my car. This is not an easy decision but a necessary one,” Kilsmith said.
Kilsmith also noted that the car’s engine has been replaced, but the original engine is included in the sale, crated in a pallet box. While the kiosk and decals were removed by the previous owner, the Pikabug still includes four Pikachu sound options accessible via remote control. Serious buyers will need to provide proof of funds before scheduling a test drive.
This rare piece of Pokémon history offers a nostalgic throwback to the 90s and is sure to be a prized possession for any die-hard Pokémon or Nintendo fan.
