A super rare Ferrari is set to sell for over £9 million at auction – equivalent to the price of 47 brand new Ferraris.
The vintage 1960 250 GT SWB California Spider, one of only 18 made, is expected to fetch between £7.5 million and £9.1 million at RM Sotheby’s auction in Monterey, California, from August 17 to 19.
This classic car, finished in light blue with red leather upholstery, is renowned for its racing history, being the only Ferrari of its type to have raced in the 1963 Targa Florio, where it finished third in its class.

Despite having had seven owners, the car has been meticulously restored, boasting a top speed of 156 mph and 0-60 mph in just 6.1 seconds.
For comparison, car enthusiasts could buy 47 brand new Ferrari Romas for the same price, with each costing £193,000. The new Roma model is faster, achieving 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 198 mph.
The 250 GT SWB California Spider is part of a collection of 128 sports cars going under the hammer. RM Sotheby’s spokesperson highlighted its unique attributes: it is the only 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider by Scaglietti to compete in the Targa Florio, a legendary endurance race held annually in Sicily until 1977.
This car, chassis 1883 GT, is the second of 56 short-wheelbase examples and one of 18 with uncovered headlamps.
It also features a type 128 F engine and has undergone a complete restoration by Carrozzeria Egidio Brandoli and Zanasi & Co., with mechanical work by Joe Macari in London.
The Ferrari’s estimated auction price ranges from £7.5 million ($9.5 million) to £9.1 million ($11.5 million), making it a highly coveted piece for collectors and automotive enthusiasts.
