2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid: First-Ever U.S. Hybrid Model Brings More Power & Efficiency
Subaru has officially unveiled the 2025 Forester Hybrid, marking the debut of its first hybrid SUV for the U.S. market at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show.
Featuring a next-generation series-parallel hybrid system, the Forester Hybrid combines a newly developed 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine with electric motors and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, delivering 194 total system horsepower—a notable increase from the standard Forester’s 180 hp.

Subaru estimates the hybrid model will achieve up to 40% better fuel economy, with an EPA rating of 35 mpg city / 34 mpg highway / 35 mpg combined. It also boasts an impressive range of up to 581 miles on a single tank.
Unlike many hybrids, Subaru has fully integrated its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, maintaining the brand’s legendary capability with X-MODE® Dual Mode, Active Torque Vectoring, and Hill Descent Control. The 8.7-inch ground clearance ensures off-road readiness while preserving easy step-in height.
Hybrid Powertrain & Performance
The 2025 Forester Hybrid utilizes a new Atkinson/Miller-cycle 2.5L BOXER® engine paired with an electric motor generator and traction motor, working seamlessly with the Lineartronic® CVT.
The system can operate using the electric motor, engine, or both, ensuring efficient power delivery for both urban and off-road driving. The high-capacity lithium-ion battery enhances performance and efficiency, with city fuel economy improving by 10 mpg over the non-hybrid model.
Advanced Safety & Technology
Every 2025 Forester Hybrid comes standard with Subaru’s latest EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, featuring an enhanced field of view, updated software, and an electric brake booster.
The system provides improved pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, and Emergency Stop Assist, which activates the hazard lights, unlocks the doors, and contacts emergency services if the driver becomes unresponsive. Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are also available.
Inside, the Forester Hybrid is tech-forward, featuring a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster alongside an 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The infotainment system also includes Bluetooth®, SiriusXM® with a 4-month Platinum Plan trial, HD Radio®, and over-the-air updates.
Exclusive Hybrid Styling
The 2025 Forester Hybrid stands out with HYBRID badging on the fenders and power rear gate, as well as an exclusive Daybreak Blue Pearl exterior color. A Crystal Black Silica contrast roof is available on select trims. Eco-friendly StarTex® interiors, made from high-durability, animal-free materials, will also be an option.
