AMSTERDAM, July 9, 2024 – Stellantis is expanding its hybrid vehicle range in Europe with the introduction of 30 hybrid models this year and plans for six new launches by 2026. This move leverages the company’s unique multi-energy approach and the latest eDCT advanced hybrid technology, aimed at providing supreme performance and affordability.
Stellantis’ hybrid models feature innovative electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCT), which offer strong energy recuperation during deceleration. This system helps achieve up to a 20% improvement in fuel economy and a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional internal combustion engines. The company has already seen a 41% increase in hybrid model sales year-to-date in 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, and anticipates further growth with the upcoming launches.

Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Stellantis Chief Operating Officer for Enlarged Europe, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing hybrid technology: “This technology not only enhances the efficiency and performance of traditional combustion engines, but also propels us toward a future of lower emissions, extended vehicle range, and overall affordability for our customers.”
Expanding the Hybrid Portfolio
Stellantis’ hybrid offerings now include models from across its 14-brand portfolio, including:
- Alfa Romeo: Junior, Tonale
- Citroën: New C3, New C3 AirCross, C4, C4X, C5 AirCross, C5X
- DS Automobiles: DS 3, DS 4
- Fiat: Panda, 600
- Jeep®: Avenger, Renegade, Compass
- Lancia: New Ypsilon
- Maserati: Grecale
- Opel/Vauxhall: Corsa, Astra, Astra SportsTourer, Mokka, Frontera, New Grandland
- Peugeot: 208, 308, 308 SW, 408, 2008, New 3008, New 5008
These hybrids utilize the eDCT system, which integrates a 21-kW electric motor and a 48-volt, 0.9-kWh battery. This setup allows for pure electric driving, particularly in city conditions, and the system captures kinetic energy during braking to recharge the battery, enhancing overall efficiency.
Leading in Sustainable Mobility
Stellantis’ strategy includes producing hybrid vehicles in over 70% of its European plants. The eTransmissions joint venture between Stellantis and its partners manufactures eDCTs in Metz, France, and Turin, Italy, with a combined annual production capacity of over 1.2 million units.
The company is investing more than €50 billion globally in electrification over the next decade. This investment is part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 initiative, aiming for a 100% battery electric vehicle sales mix in Europe and a 50% mix in the United States by 2030. The plan also includes achieving carbon net zero status by 2038.
Sébastien Jacquet, Stellantis Deputy Chief Engineering Officer, highlighted the accessibility of the new technology: “Our advanced eDCT technology allows the internal combustion engine to remain off during low-speed driving, reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. This innovation is within reach for everyone.”
Stellantis continues to lead in low-emission vehicle sales in the EU30, spanning battery electric, fuel cell, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid models across various segments and light commercial vehicles.
