The iconic Britain’s Got Talent and former X-Factor judge acquired the 260mph supercar new in 2008, during the peak of his television career.

Now, RM Sotheby’s is auctioning the Veyron as part of its prestigious Dare to Dream Collection, with an estimated value of up to £1.4 million. The auction, set for June 1st, will proceed without a reserve price. Initially, Cowell purchased the car in Los Angeles for £1 million, as reported by Luxury Auto News.

Cowell, now 64, shared his fascination with the car during a 2011 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing that despite his love for the vehicle, he only drove it for 1,000 miles—averaging just 166 miles annually, or less than half a mile each day.

An RM Sotheby’s spokesperson highlighted the car’s exceptional status, noting, “The Veyron 16.4 on offer here is no exception, having been first owned by renowned British media kingpin, Simon Cowell. Purchased straight off the Beverly Hills showroom floor in early 2008, Cowell’s Veyron was instantly known to Los Angeles’ glitterati as exploding flash bulbs and gawking crowds seemed to follow at every haughty stop.

During a 2011 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Cowell detailed his infatuation with the car, saying the Veyron ‘beckoned him’ upon first seeing it and facetiously stating that since he was so regularly chauffeured, he had only driven the car twice. Cowell clearly enjoyed his Bugatti more than he was letting on, as he added just over 1,000 miles during his tenure before selling to the Dare to Dream Collection in 2014.”

The spokesperson added that the car has been meticulously maintained under the collection’s care for the past decade, complete with maintenance invoices and documents relating to Cowell’s ownership.

This all-black Veyron, with its coveted livery and celebrity provenance, promises to be a thrilling addition to any serious collector’s garage. The Bugatti Veyron, often hailed as one of the greatest cars ever made, continues to hold an almost mythical status in the automotive world.
