To mark its 35th anniversary, Lexus has relocated to a new headquarters in Shimoyama, nestled in the mountains near Toyota City, Japan.
This state-of-the-art facility spans 650 hectares, with nearly 60% of the area covered by forests and green spaces, reflecting Lexus’ commitment to harmonizing innovation with nature.
The €1.8 million investment now houses approximately 3,000 employees across all of the brand’s departments, including design, research, and development, under one roof for the first time. This integration is set to enhance collaboration and streamline the development of next-generation Lexus vehicles.

A Global Test Track Experience
A standout feature of the Shimoyama facility is its unique test track, operational since 2021, which replicates road conditions from around the world. The western section of the track supports high-speed testing and challenges chassis systems with varied terrains, while the central area includes specialized off-road tracks. This comprehensive setup has been instrumental in refining key models such as the hybrid Lexus LBX, the popular NX SUV, and the all-electric Lexus RZ.
Synergy with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing
The new Vehicle Development Building in Shimoyama is also shared with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Its Nürburgring-inspired garages foster collaboration between Lexus and GR engineers, enabling real-time data analysis and faster development of both Lexus and GR performance vehicles. Additionally, a dedicated guest building provides an inviting space for business partners and suppliers.
A Hub for Innovation and Joy
During the facility’s opening, Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, highlighted its significance: “Although we do not have a factory in Shimoyama, this place will create cars that bring joy to their drivers. Lexus and GAZOO Racing engineers and test drivers will push the boundaries of vehicle performance here.”
The Shimoyama headquarters symbolizes a new era for Lexus, blending advanced vehicle development with a commitment to crafting vehicles that deliver exceptional driving pleasure.
