Rolls-Royce Motor Cars marks its fourth consecutive year of participation in the Dare to Dream mentoring scheme, organized by the Love Local Jobs Foundation. This initiative connects Year 9 pupils from local West Sussex schools with Rolls-Royce employees and apprentices, aiming to boost their confidence, overcome personal and academic challenges, and shape their career aspirations.

Fifteen Rolls-Royce team members, including apprentices for the first time, mentored pupils from Chichester Free School, Bourne Community College, and Ormiston Six Villages Academy. Through a series of three sessions, mentors shared their experiences and engaged with the pupils to explore and challenge their self-perceptions and future goals.

Mark Adams, Director of Human Resources at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, highlighted the program’s impact, stating, “The journey has been very rewarding for everyone involved. Seeing our apprentices participate this year was particularly satisfying. Their experiences offer valuable guidance to young people seeking direction.”

The inclusion of apprentices proved especially beneficial, as their closer age and relatable experiences fostered meaningful connections with the students. This new dynamic provided fresh perspectives and strengthened the mentorship’s impact.

Samantha Savage, Year 9 Leader at Bourne Community College, expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “The whole program has been exceptional. The time our students spent at the Home of Rolls-Royce and the mentorship support has noticeably changed their attitudes towards the world of work. They returned inspired by potential career pathways.”

Apprentice Maddison Headland, who participated as a mentor, emphasized the importance of the program: “It’s crucial for young people to see what they are capable of achieving despite any setbacks. The program shows them they can push through and succeed.”

Lydia Woodroff, HR Sustainability Business Partner at Rolls-Royce, coordinates the project. She shared the success of this year’s program, noting the positive impact on participants who had the chance to observe the vehicle manufacturing process and even experience a ‘customer reveal’ event. “We’re grateful for this opportunity to showcase the diverse range of skills within our organization and the variety of roles we offer,” Woodroff said.

Through initiatives like Dare to Dream, Rolls-Royce continues to support and inspire the next generation, demonstrating its commitment to community engagement and youth development.
