Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger and its iconic 1937 Phantom III, driven by the film’s villain, Auric Goldfinger.
The Phantom III, the first V12 Rolls-Royce and the last model developed by Henry Royce before his death in 1933, played a key role in Goldfinger’s plot to smuggle gold across Europe.

The Phantom III’s commanding presence, unique coachwork by Barker, and AU 1 license plate (symbolizing gold’s chemical symbol) have made it a lasting symbol of luxury and intrigue.
As part of the celebration, Rolls-Royce will make a special announcement on October 25, continuing the legacy of the Phantom III and its connection to the James Bond franchise.
A Historic Role in Goldfinger
In Goldfinger, the Phantom III, painted in signature black and yellow, is used by Goldfinger to smuggle two tons of gold. Its power, suspension, and elegance made it the perfect vehicle for high-speed smuggling across treacherous alpine roads.
This same model, which originally belonged to Lord Fairhaven of Anglesey Abbey, became an icon in both the cinematic and automotive world.
