Boosting Efficiency and Local Job Creation

The new 1.2 million square foot supplier park will allow key suppliers to conduct light assembly and manufacturing onsite.

Rivian workers will kit and sequence parts before transferring them via a planned underground tunnel to the main plant—cutting down on road traffic and reducing shipping, warehousing, and logistics costs.

This initiative supports Rivian’s preparations for its next vehicle, the R2, which will join the R1T, R1S, and commercial vans currently built in Normal. Production of R2 is expected to start in 2026, with a separate 1.1 million square foot plant expansion also underway to accommodate the new model.

Public-Private Collaboration

The project is backed by the State of Illinois, which is offering tax incentives and infrastructure support tied to job creation. Governor JB Pritzker called it part of building a full EV ecosystem in Illinois, adding, “Rivian’s investment will attract suppliers from across the globe and strengthen our position in the clean energy economy.”

The Town of Normal is also contributing by making road upgrades and helping to extend utility services, aided by future tax reimbursements.

Strategic Growth for Rivian

As Rivian scales up its manufacturing capabilities, this supplier park reinforces its commitment to localized production, job creation, and sustainable operations.

By co-locating suppliers, Rivian enhances its supply chain resilience while contributing to Illinois’ growing role as a hub for electric vehicle innovation.
