A super rare 1970 Plymouth Superbird, famed for its appearance in the Disney Pixar movie *Cars*, is currently up for auction with a starting price of £147,000.
This blue classic muscle car is one of just 2,000 units produced and is well-known for its iconic nose cone and prowess in circuit racing.
The Superbird is capable of reaching speeds up to 185 mph and boasts a 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds. It features a 4.4-liter V8 engine and has logged 91,000 miles, averaging 1,685 miles per year.

The auction is being held by Bring a Trailer, located in Slidell, near New Orleans, Louisiana, US. The listing for this vehicle provides detailed information about its history and features: “This 1970 Plymouth Superbird is one of approximately 2,000 examples produced for a single model year between October and December 1969.
It was completed on November 30, 1969, and spent time in Tennessee before being purchased by John Vaughn, a Chrysler Corporation Space Division engineer involved in wind-tunnel testing during the development of the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird.”
The car underwent a refurbishment completed in 2005 before being purchased by the current seller in 2010. Finished in blue with white vinyl upholstery, the Superbird is powered by a 440ci V8 paired with a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and an 8.75″ Sure Grip rear end with a 3.55:1 final drive.
Additional features include a nose cone, rear wing, black vinyl roof, power-assisted steering, front disc brakes, Rallye 15″ wheels, and a push-button AM radio.
Modifications include an aluminum radiator, a 16″ cooling fan, a coolant-overflow tank, and a PerTronix electronic ignition system. Recent service performed in 2023 included the replacement of the voltage regulator, reverse-light switch, and headlights.
