Rare 1950s Ferrari Formula 1 Car Up for Sale at a Whopping £2.5 Million

A magnificent relic from Ferrari’s golden era in Formula 1 racing is set to go under the hammer. The 1954 Ferrari 625 F1, a standout piece from the prestigious Bardinon Mas du Clos collection for the past 15 years, is expected to fetch an impressive £2.5 million at auction.

This vehicle is closely related to Ferrari’s first world championship-winning car, the legendary 500 F2, which propelled Alberto Ascari to consecutive world championships in 1952 and 1953.

The 625 F1 was upgraded at the factory to meet new specifications, becoming the first Ferrari to be campaigned by the Belgian national team, Ecurie Francorchamps.

Adding to its historical significance, this particular 625 F1 was the only Ferrari Monoposto ever raced by the legendary Marquis Alfonso de Portago. RM Sotheby’s, a renowned collector car auction company, will be listing this iconic motor in their upcoming Monaco sale in May 2024.

The car comes with a wealth of documentation, including the Classiche inspection report, which authenticates its history and provenance as collected by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini. This 70-year-old Ferrari is steeped in history and is poised to attract significant attention from collectors and enthusiasts.

“Representing one of the most dominant periods in Scuderia Ferrari history,” said RM Sotheby’s, “including Ferrari’s first Drivers’ World Championship, and claiming important ownership provenance and racing use by Jacques Swaters’ Ecurie Francorchamps and the legendary Marquis de Portago, this extremely rare 625 F1 would make a fabulous addition to any collection.”
