Porsche has demonstrated the impressive range, charging efficiency, and practicality of the all-electric Taycan with the 1,111-km Challenge, inviting international journalists to traverse a meticulously planned route connecting four Porsche Charging Lounges across Austria and Germany.

A Test of Range and Strategy

Starting in Koblach, Austria, the challenge took participants through Bingen am Rhein, Würzburg, and Ingolstadt, forming a Nürburgring-like outline on the map.

Each vehicle began fully charged, with a range approaching 600 km (WLTP), and relied solely on Porsche’s Charging Lounges, showcasing the brand’s expanding EV infrastructure.

  • Record-setting charging speeds: At the Bingen Charging Lounge, a peak output of 321 kW was achieved, highlighting Porsche’s advanced charging capabilities.
  • Fast-charging insights: Most teams charged to 70–80% SoC within 15–20 minutes, optimizing travel time by avoiding diminishing charging speeds at higher battery levels.
  • Cost-efficiency: The Taycan completed the journey with a total cost of just €125, leveraging Porsche’s Charging Service, significantly cheaper than comparable combustion-engine vehicles.

Real-World Results

The fastest team completed the route in 11 hours, maintaining an average speed of over 100 km/h and achieving consumption of 25 kWh/100 km. All six vehicles combined covered 20,000 km over three days, reinforcing the Taycan’s capabilities in range and performance.

Charging Performance Leadership

The updated Taycan, launched in 2024, also won the P3 Charging Index, offering a peak charging power of 325 kW and maintaining more than 300 kW up to 60% SoC. This allows the Performance Battery Plus to charge from 10% to 80% SoC in just 18 minutes, cementing the Taycan as a leader in EV charging technology.
