Porsche has rapidly developed a new infotainment system tailored to the Chinese market, reflecting the country’s fast-growing digital ecosystems and specific consumer expectations.
Collaborating closely with Porsche Engineering and a local supplier, the luxury carmaker integrated popular Chinese apps and advanced voice control into the Boxster, Cayman, and Macan models. The project, completed in just 18 months, was executed under a demanding timeline to meet the high standards expected by Chinese customers, who prioritize sophisticated in-car technology.

The new Android-based platform, which includes apps like Ximalaya, WeChat, iQIYI, and Kuwo Music, as well as enhanced navigation through Amap, was developed “in China for China.” This approach ensured that Porsche’s infotainment system was equipped to handle real-time traffic updates and colloquial voice commands, crucial features for Chinese consumers.
Despite the complexity, Porsche maintained its vehicle design standards, requiring no changes to the cars’ existing structure. The development involved a close partnership between Porsche’s teams in Germany and China, ensuring a seamless integration of the new system. Production of the infotainment unit began in September 2023, with installations in vehicles starting in November, and customer deliveries beginning in early 2024.
Michael Ackermann, Senior Expert at Porsche AG, noted that the project’s success was due to streamlined processes and exemplary collaboration, allowing Porsche to deliver cutting-edge features without compromising quality or timelines.
