In a groundbreaking collaboration, Melbourne-based artist Emily Medbury and Polestar have unveiled the Re

Collection, a series of three bespoke sculptures that embody the principles of circular design and innovative thinking. The collection, celebrating the sustainable design elements of the Polestar 3, marks Medbury’s first venture into sculptural art.

Medbury, the Founder and Creative Director of Anemoia Studio, has long been a leader in sustainable design. Her sculptural debut reaffirms the transformative potential of items often deemed insignificant. Each piece in the Re Collection is crafted from commonly discarded materials, illustrating the notion that what is often considered waste can be repurposed into something of value.

The first two sculptures serve as both a warning and a vision of a better future, incorporating materials such as ghost fishing nets salvaged from the ocean, discarded aluminium cans, and an obsolete satellite. These elements are repurposed into strikingly beautiful and sustainable sculptures. The final piece in the collection, made from natural flax fiber, emphasizes the potential of an infinite closed-loop system, suggesting that the answers to sustainability challenges may already exist.

This collection presents a vision of a future where innovative thinking about material use becomes standard practice, reducing environmental impact. This vision aligns with Polestar’s commitment to sustainability, as reflected in the design of the Polestar 3. The vehicle features carpets made from 100% ECONYL® polyamide, sourced from discarded fishing nets and plastic waste, and interior aluminium deco panels made from 80 percent post-industrial waste.

Polestar’s efforts, including the Polestar 3, contribute to the ambitious Polestar 0 project, aiming to produce a climate-neutral car by 2030. Jonathan Williams, Head of Marketing at Polestar Australia, emphasized the importance of circularity in Polestar’s sustainability commitment and the ongoing search for innovative materials to minimize environmental impact.

“Our collaboration with Anemoia Studio highlights the strides we’ve made towards greater sustainability,” Williams said. “It also encourages audiences to consider the broader impact of the automotive industry and the need for a deeper commitment to circular processes.”

The Re Collection stands as a powerful testament to the potential of sustainable design and the innovative spirit driving both Medbury and Polestar towards a more environmentally responsible future.
