Opel’s latest SUV, the new Opel Grandland, has won the prestigious 2024 Golden Steering Wheel Award, recognized by German automotive publications AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG as the best car under €50,000.
This award marks a significant achievement for Opel, celebrating the brand’s 21st Golden Steering Wheel and highlighting the Grandland’s stylish design, advanced technology, and robust electrified drivetrain options.

The Grandland, soon to arrive at dealerships, is the first Opel built on the BEV-native STLA Medium platform, which enables a long-range, emissions-free driving experience.
This platform supports various powertrains, offering buyers the flexibility to choose between hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. Equipped with a powerful 97 kWh battery, the electric variant will offer a projected range of up to 700 kilometers (WLTP), establishing the Grandland as a leader in sustainable mobility for SUV enthusiasts.
Florian Huettl, Opel CEO, emphasized the SUV’s blend of comfort, electrification, and signature German design as contributing factors to the award win, stating, “The new Opel Grandland is already bringing the automotive future to the road. This blend combined with the bold and pure Opel design is exceptional.”
Inside the Grandland, advanced features support a comfortable and tech-forward driving experience. The cockpit includes two widescreen displays and an optional Intelli-HUD head-up display, while adaptive Intelli-Lux HD lighting with over 50,000 LED elements ensures visibility without glare.
Ergonomically designed seats, certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V. (AGR), offer additional comfort with individual adjustability. Meanwhile, Opel’s innovative Pixel Box, featuring a translucent illuminated glass surface, provides convenient wireless phone charging in the center console. The vehicle also boasts a spacious cargo area with up to 1,645 liters of storage, enhancing its appeal as a family SUV.
This award continues Opel’s tradition of innovative achievements, from the first win in 1978 with the Opel Senator to recent victories with electrified models like the Mokka-e and Astra L. As part of the Stellantis group, Opel’s commitment to excellence and forward-thinking technology is embodied in the Grandland, an SUV that exemplifies the brand’s “German Energy” ethos with an eye toward sustainable mobility and advanced design.
