Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, has released its production, sales, and export statistics for May 2024, showcasing varied performance across different regions and vehicle categories.

Production

In May 2024, Nissan’s global production slightly increased by 0.1% compared to the same month last year, totaling 274,962 vehicles. However, production in Japan saw a significant decrease of 7.9%, producing 49,173 vehicles. Passenger vehicle production in Japan fell by 5.0%, with 44,859 units manufactured, while commercial vehicle production plummeted by 30.4%, totaling 4,314 units.

On the other hand, production outside Japan saw a modest rise of 2.1%, amounting to 225,789 vehicles. Notably, China reported an 18.0% increase, producing 63,809 vehicles, while Mexico experienced a 7.5% growth, with 60,881 vehicles produced. The United States, however, saw an 8.9% decrease, with 48,864 vehicles produced. Production in the UK rose by 2.9%, reaching 26,746 vehicles.

From January to May 2024, Nissan’s global production totaled 1,367,701 vehicles, a 1.9% decrease from the previous year. Production in Japan for the same period was 277,139 vehicles, down 1.4%, while production outside Japan decreased by 2.1% to 1,090,562 vehicles.

Sales

Nissan’s global sales in May 2024 declined by 0.8%, totaling 272,405 vehicles. In Japan, total sales, including minivehicles, decreased by 3.4%, reaching 31,579 units. Sales of registered vehicles in Japan fell significantly by 11.2%, whereas minivehicle sales rose by 9.9%.

Outside Japan, sales saw a slight decline of 0.4%, with 240,826 vehicles sold. The US market remained stable with a 0.4% increase, selling 80,067 vehicles. Canada experienced an 11.0% decrease, with 8,888 vehicles sold, while Mexico’s sales grew by 3.9% to 20,913 vehicles. European sales increased by 2.1%, totaling 24,879 vehicles, and China’s sales saw a slight decline of 2.8%, reaching 64,233 vehicles.

From January to May 2024, global sales reached 1,436,052 vehicles, a 4.0% increase from the previous year. Sales in Japan were relatively stable with a minor decrease of 0.2%, totaling 209,445 vehicles. Sales outside Japan rose by 4.8%, reaching 1,226,607 vehicles.

Exports from Japan

In May 2024, Nissan’s exports from Japan surged by 11.4%, totaling 30,878 vehicles. Exports to North America increased significantly by 41.7%, reaching 18,337 vehicles, while exports to Europe rose by 38.8%, totaling 6,128 vehicles. However, exports to other regions fell by 38.1%, with 6,413 vehicles shipped.

From January to May 2024, total exports from Japan reached 163,180 vehicles, marking a 3.2% increase from the previous year. Exports to North America for this period totaled 84,404 vehicles, a 4.5% increase, while exports to Europe reached 23,611 vehicles, a 15.7% rise. Exports to other regions saw a slight decrease of 3.0%, totaling 55,165 vehicles.

In summary, Nissan’s performance in May 2024 reflects mixed outcomes across various markets and vehicle categories, with notable growth in exports and certain international markets counterbalanced by declines in domestic production and sales.
