NIO Unveils 2024 ESG Report, Underscoring Progress Toward a Sustainable Future
On April 22, 2025, NIO published its 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, highlighting its wide-ranging efforts in sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
With a focus on climate action, clean energy, responsible innovation, and inclusive growth, NIO reaffirms its mission of “Shaping a Sustainable and Brighter Future Together.”

A Blue Sky Mission and Climate Action
Staying true to its “Blue Sky Coming” vision, NIO continues pushing for carbon neutrality through green mobility solutions. In 2024, it played a major role in COP29, providing EV services for global dignitaries and joining forums on sustainable auto development. It also entered Azerbaijan through a partnership with Green Car.
NIO achieved 98.8% vehicle recoverability and 91.4% recyclability, while 56.6% of energy used at manufacturing sites came from renewable sources — up 74.5% year-on-year.
The F2 factory was honored as both a “Super Automotive Factory” and a “2024 Green Factory.” The Clean Parks initiative expanded to 17 ecological zones in China and partnered with Danish conservation groups.
Innovative Products, Smarter Safety
NIO invested over RMB 13 billion in R&D in 2024, leading advancements in autonomous driving, EV tech, and AI integration. It launched NOP+ in 726 cities, achieving 1.5 billion cumulative km and introduced the industry’s first AES system with wide speed range capabilities.
The brand’s active safety systems—certified by major insurers—reduced safety-related costs by 25.2% and serious injuries by 55%.
The company also led in over-the-air updates, pushing 23 global FOTA updates with 482 new features. It hit a milestone with the 1,000,000th EDS (Thunder 900V) and earned accolades for its 900V architecture and battery innovation, including 249 patents developed in 2024 alone.
Strengthening the Supply Chain
Focused on resilience and low-carbon practices, NIO’s supplier sustainability program included audits of 140+ parts and due diligence on 138 partners. It awarded 16 partners for outstanding sustainability and conducted 250+ quality audits to boost compliance and quality across its ecosystem.
Investing in People
NIO nurtures a global team from 24 countries, fostering diversity and employee well-being. It delivered over 750 training sessions in 2024, reaching more than 45,000 participants.
Events and cultural programs, along with extensive employee feedback surveys, underscored its commitment to a supportive, inclusive work environment.
Creating Social Value Through Collaboration
In collaboration with academia and government, NIO supported 12 tech R&D projects and co-published 46 research papers. Its user community saw major expansion, with 2,253 clubs hosting 750+ weekly events and 350 charitable initiatives reaching over 68,000 families.
NIO’s Users Trust Foundation facilitated large-scale community engagement and volunteer efforts.
