NIO Launches Power Swap Station 4.0: Enhancing EV Charging Efficiency

NIO’s Power Swap Station 4.0, now operational, offers faster, automated battery swaps in just 144 seconds, supports multiple brands, and features advanced technology for a seamless EV experience.

The first batch of NIO Power Swap Station 4.0 has gone live, marking a significant advancement in automated battery swapping technology. This fourth-generation station supports battery swaps for multiple brands and different vehicle models, providing a more convenient experience than traditional gas refueling. NIO, ONVO, and other strategic partners can now access these new stations for an enhanced battery swapping experience.

NIO’s Power Swap Station 4.0 features six ultrawide-FOV LiDARs and four Orin X chips, delivering a total computing power of 1,016 TOPS. Users can initiate an automatic battery swap with a single tap on the center display or even remotely.

The new station is 22% faster than the previous generation, completing a swap in just 144 seconds. With an enlarged compartment that can hold 23 batteries, each station can perform up to 480 swaps per day, significantly boosting both speed and capacity. Alongside the new swap station, NIO also launched a 640kW Liquid-Cooled Power Charger, capable of delivering a maximum current of 765A and a voltage of 1,000V.

The liquid-cooled charging cable, weighing only 2.4kg, is as light as a laptop and easy to operate with one hand.

The first new stations were installed in Guangzhou’s Liwan District and the Luoji Service Area on the G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway. The Guangzhou station is the city’s 108th, while the station in Lu’an, Anhui Province, is the first jointly established by NIO and Zhongan Energy following their strategic partnership agreement on March 22.

Moving forward, NIO and Zhongan Energy plan to deploy more all-in-one stations in Anhui Province, which will also be capable of solar power generation and energy storage, with a network expansion to the Yangtze River Delta and beyond.

Since its establishment, NIO has been committed to advancing charging and swapping technologies and infrastructure development. As of June 13, NIO has installed 2,432 Power Swap Stations and 22,633 chargers across China, including 804 swap stations and 1,650 superchargers on highways.
