Nikola and ITD Industries Launch Ontario’s First Hydrogen Refueling Station

Nikola Corporation (Nasdaq: NKLA), a leader in zero-emissions transportation, and ITD Industries have inaugurated Ontario’s first commercial hydrogen refueling station for heavy-duty transportation. The station, located at ITD Industries’ headquarters in Etobicoke, is strategically placed near major highways, making it a pivotal addition to the region’s infrastructure.

The launch event featured prominent guests, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Associate Minister Sam Oosterhoff, alongside key industry figures from companies such as Walmart Canada and Canadian Tire.

This station represents a significant milestone for Nikola and ITD Energy, ITD Industries’ subsidiary and the first Canadian dealer in Nikola’s sales and service network. It utilizes a 700-bar pressure-fill system, facilitating efficient hydrogen refueling for long-range vehicles like the Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric Class 8 truck.

Nikola CEO Steve Girsky expressed excitement about the station’s role in advancing a hydrogen-powered future, emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing comprehensive hydrogen solutions. The collaboration with ITD Industries aims to support the entire hydrogen ecosystem, marking significant progress in building North America’s hydrogen infrastructure.

Philip Turi, COO of ITD Industries, highlighted the importance of the station in Ontario’s shift towards carbon-free commercial transportation. Plans are in place for additional stations across Ontario, creating a hydrogen fueling corridor from Windsor to Montreal.

Premier Doug Ford praised the initiative, acknowledging its role in developing clean energy solutions crucial for Ontario’s growth. The station’s opening aligns with Nikola’s strategic expansion in Canada, bolstered by incentives such as the federal iMHZEV program and British Columbia’s Clean BC Go Electric Rebates, which provide substantial financial support for acquiring Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell and battery-electric trucks.

This launch follows the recent unveiling of Alberta’s first commercial hydrogen refueling station, furthering the development of a hydrogen network across Western Canada. Nikola and ITD Industries, in partnership with organizations like the Canadian Hydrogen Association and major retailers, are driving the transformation of Canada’s transportation sector towards sustainability.
