Mercedes-Benz is launching an upgraded version of its DRIVE PILOT system (SAE Level 3) in Germany by early 2025, enabling automated driving at speeds of up to 95 km/h on motorways.
Existing customers will receive the upgrade for free, either via over-the-air (OTA) updates or through a workshop visit, with no hardware changes required. This makes DRIVE PILOT the world’s fastest Level 3 system in a production vehicle.

The system allows drivers to hand over control in certain traffic conditions, freeing them to focus on secondary activities like working or streaming content.
It uses redundant safety architecture and a combination of cameras, sensors, and LiDAR to ensure precise navigation.
Mercedes-Benz aims to enable speeds of up to 130 km/h by the end of the decade, while also testing new turquoise marker lights to signal the system’s activation.
