Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging and Starbucks have announced a strategic collaboration to install over 100 DC Fast EV chargers at Starbucks locations across the United States. This initiative aims to integrate convenient, high-speed charging with the everyday Starbucks experience.
The first phase of the collaboration focuses on electrifying the 1,400-mile Interstate 5 corridor, which spans from Canada to Mexico. By co-locating industry-leading 400 kW EV chargers at Starbucks stores along this critical west coast travel route, the two companies seek to provide seamless charging opportunities for EV drivers. The vision extends beyond I-5, targeting key urban areas, charging deserts, and other essential travel corridors in future phases.

Enhancing the Charging Experience
Andrew Cornelia, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, highlighted the potential of this partnership: “The collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks will uplift the charging experience for all EV drivers. We seek to infuse delight into this facet of EV ownership through intentional experiences that make drivers genuinely excited to plug in. We envision a future where charging your vehicle is as easy as enjoying your favorite Starbucks.”
Michael Kobori, Starbucks Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasized Starbucks’ commitment to renewable energy: “At Starbucks, we have a long history of bringing renewable and clean energy projects to connect communities that lack the infrastructure. Partnering with Mercedes is the next step in expanding our EV charging offerings so our customers can refuel sustainably while they enjoy Starbucks.”
Sustainability Goals
Both Mercedes-Benz and Starbucks have strong sustainability strategies. Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging supports Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s target to go electric, with a public charging network powered by 100% clean energy as part of the “Ambition 2039” initiative to achieve carbon neutrality across its fleet and value chain.
Starbucks aims to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and currently offers EV charging at over 1,000 stores in the U.S. This partnership with Mercedes-Benz will further expand Starbucks’ EV charging network, promoting renewable energy and clean technology in more communities.
Expanding the Network
Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging opened its first site in November 2023, part of an initial $1 billion investment to build a desirable charging network. Since then, the network has expanded rapidly, with 400 kW charging stations established in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. The network aims to cover nearly half of the US states within the next 12-18 months. By aligning with leading brands, Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging plans to enhance the quality of the charging experience, innovate spatial design, and offer market-leading consumer experiences.
This partnership marks a significant step towards making EV charging as convenient and enjoyable as a visit to Starbucks, supporting the transition to sustainable energy and enhancing the EV ownership experience.
