British supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group have launched their latest collaboration, the LEGO® Technic™ McLaren P1™, a tribute to the pioneering hybrid hypercar. The new model captures the essence of the McLaren P1™, renowned for its groundbreaking advances in high-performance automotive engineering.
The 1:8 scale LEGO Technic McLaren P1™ consists of 3,893 pieces and features an array of authentic elements, including a 7-speed gearbox, suspension, a V8 piston engine, an adjustable rear wing, and opening dihedral doors. This intricate design ensures an immersive building experience that mirrors the engineering excellence of the original car.

Tobias Sühlmann, Chief Design Officer at McLaren Automotive, expressed excitement over the collaboration, stating, “It’s amazing to see so many of the elements from the original P1 brought to life by the LEGO team. I hope this collaboration inspires the next generation of designers and engineers to push the boundaries of automotive innovation.”
The LEGO Technic team worked closely with McLaren to incorporate as much functionality into the model as possible. Designer Kasper Rene Hansen highlighted the challenge of replicating the iconic butterfly doors, which required a new mechanism to stay open. “We worked on multiple variations to test different designs and ensure we captured the real McLaren P1™ details without compromise,” he said.
The LEGO Technic McLaren P1™ will be available from August 1, 2024, priced at €449.99 / £389.99 / $449.99. Purchases made between August 1-7, 2024, will include the LEGO Technic McLaren P1 Logo as a gift.
The LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, which launched in 2016, continues to push the limits of scale model design. Each vehicle in the series is a meticulously designed 1:8 scale sports car, demonstrating that with LEGO Technic, it’s possible to ‘Build for Real.’
