Toyota will build a new factory in Shanghai to produce an electric Lexus model by 2027, supporting carbon neutrality with EV production, battery manufacturing, and hydrogen tech.

Toyota is set to build a new factory in Shanghai to produce an electric Lexus model, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. The facility, located in the Jinshan District, will initially assemble 100,000 vehicles per year and also manufacture batteries for electric cars.

This expansion is part of Toyota Motor Corporation’s commitment to carbon neutrality, aligning with Shanghai’s goal to reduce China’s CO2 emissions by 2060.

Under this agreement, Toyota will support the city in hydrogen technology, autonomous driving systems, and battery recycling and reuse.

The new plant will employ 1,000 workers and marks a significant step in Toyota’s EV strategy, reinforcing its investment in sustainable mobility and localized production. Currently, all Lexus models sold in Poland are produced in Japan.
