Lexus offers its intelligent E-FOUR four-wheel drive system across its lineup of hybrid and plug-in hybrid crossovers and SUVs, providing enhanced performance and safety with minimal impact on fuel consumption.
Unlike traditional 4×4 systems, E-FOUR uses an electric motor to power the rear axle, eliminating the need for mechanical connections between the axles.
This setup allows for better fuel efficiency and the advantages of all-wheel drive when extra traction is needed, such as in slippery conditions or on hilly terrain.

How E-FOUR Works
The system is managed by the hybrid system’s computer, primarily using the front axle for normal driving while engaging the rear motor as necessary. This setup ensures low fuel consumption while maintaining a spacious luggage compartment due to the compact and lightweight rear motor.
