Lexus is celebrating 35 years in Canada, a market that has become one of the brand’s most significant globally. After its Canadian debut in 1990 with the LS and ES models, Lexus quickly gained traction.
In just the first quarter of sales, nearly 600 vehicles were sold, and by the next year, sales had topped 2,600. Fast forward to 2024, Lexus closed the year with over 27,000 vehicles sold in Canada, making it the brand’s fourth-largest market worldwide, with cumulative sales surpassing 450,000 units.

Canada also holds a historic role in Lexus manufacturing. In 2003, it became the first country outside Japan to produce Lexus vehicles, beginning with the RX 330 at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC).
In 2014, the plant added the RX 450h, marking the first hybrid Lexus built outside Japan. Today, TMMC produces NX and RX models, both in gasoline and hybrid variants, which account for 60% of Lexus sales in Canada.

The plant in Cambridge, Ontario, has become a benchmark for quality and craftsmanship, employing over 8,500 people and supporting tens of thousands more through suppliers and partners.
Lexus currently operates 40 dealerships across Canada, offering a 12-model lineup that includes popular SUVs like the UX, NX, RX, the fully electric RZ, and the newly launched hybrid LX 700h.

As Lexus continues its evolution in the luxury automotive space, its roots and success in Canada remain a key part of its global story.
“This incredible 35-year journey wouldn’t be possible without the loyalty of our customers and the dedication of our teams and communities,” said Martin Gilbert, President of Lexus Canada.
