A Lamborghini Miura hailed for being the first modern supercar is going under the hammer for £1.2million

The yellow 1969 motor boasts an astonishing 0-60mph in just 5.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 168mph.

Petrol heads will be rubbing their hands at the chance of owning such an iconic piece of modern motoring history.

Combining performance, its hair-raising speed, design and technical innovation, the Miura shocked the public when it debuted 58 years ago.

Equipped with a 4.0 litre V-12 engine the motor has an impressive 370 bhp.

During its prime years, the Miura was one of the fastest road-legal vehicles in the world, as reported by Luxury Auto News.

Famous former owners of models include Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and Jay Kay.

In 2020, this sports car was acquired by Angus Mitchell, who had purchased the car for his 50th birthday.

During Angus’ ownership of the vehicle, the Miura was restored and maintained in great condition.

The Lamborghini will now feature at auction in Monterey, California, US, during an event hosted by RM Sotheby’s.

The auction will take place on 17 August.

A Sotheby’s spokesperson said: “To many, the introduction of the Lamborghini Miura heralded the birth of the modern ‘supercar.’

“Prior to its launch in 1966, there were, of course, many cars that provided incredible levels of performance and exclusivity to the privileged few.

“However, none were quite like the Miura, which offered a thrilling combination of not only performance and tremendous outright speed, but also, design and technical innovation to shock and awe the public.

“A car that was restored, kept, maintained, and enjoyed by true enthusiasts, not least among them Angus Mitchell, this is a true driver’s Miura, and awaits its next caretaker’s adventurous spirit to climb behind the wheel.”
