JLR Invests Over £1M to Aid UK Police in Combating Vehicle Thefts

JLR invests over £1M to support UK police in combating vehicle thefts, enhancing police presence, establishing an intelligence unit, and sharing critical data for vehicle recovery.

JLR is committing over £1 million to bolster police operations targeting organized crime groups responsible for vehicle thefts in the UK.

This significant investment will enhance police presence in high-theft areas and support the establishment of a new intelligence unit to gather critical information, particularly at ports where stolen vehicles are often exported.

This initiative is part of JLR’s comprehensive security program designed to aid owners affected by rising vehicle crime rates, ultimately benefiting all UK motorists.

The company’s specialist teams will continue collaborating with police by providing insights into the tactics and tools used in the theft of Range Rover vehicles.

Patrick McGillycuddy, Managing Director of JLR UK, emphasized the company’s commitment, stating, “We are constantly developing our systems and security features and through our close collaboration with police, we stay ahead of any emerging methods and quickly deploy anti-theft measures.

This additional investment, coupled with our other ongoing and proactive action, shows our commitment to supporting the authorities in having a tangible impact on combating this issue in the UK.”

Pilot operations in collaboration with two police forces have already yielded positive results, including the recovery of stolen vehicles and arrests of suspects. The new investment will also enable specialist officers to investigate these crimes more thoroughly.

In addition to financial support, JLR is assisting UK authorities by sharing vehicle location and telematics data, which is crucial for prosecuting offenders and recovering stolen vehicles. JLR has trained over 650 officers in searching recovered vehicles and seizing tools used in thefts.

This investment is part of JLR’s broader strategy to address vehicle thefts and mitigate their impact on insurance premiums for clients.

The latest generation of JLR vehicles has shown strong resilience to theft, with Police National Computer data indicating that since January 2022, only 0.2% of new Range Rover and Range Rover Sports models and 0.3% of new Defenders have been stolen.

For owners of older models, JLR has invested £15 million in updating vehicle security features, ensuring they have the highest levels of protection. Furthermore, in October 2023, JLR launched Jaguar Insurance and Land Rover Insurance to provide competitive coverage options, particularly for Range Rover owners. To date, they have issued over 46,300 quotes, with an average monthly premium of £183.

Police data from UK ports revealed a 49% reduction in the number of stolen Range Rovers discovered in 2023 compared to 2022, showcasing the effectiveness of JLR’s collaborative efforts with law enforcement.
