In an industry-first initiative, JLR has partnered with global tyre manufacturer Pirelli to introduce FSC-certified natural rubber and rayon tyres across its luxury vehicle lineup. This significant move will debut on the new Range Rover Electric and will involve over 250,000 tyres per year, reinforcing JLR’s commitment to sustainability.
This collaboration supports JLR’s Reimagine strategy, focusing on responsible sourcing and traceability in the supply chain. The FSC certification ensures that the rubber is ethically sourced, promoting sustainable development and forest preservation. The complex chain of custody certification process by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) verifies that the material is separated from non-certified material and sustainably farmed.

JLR’s Sustainability Director, Andrea Debbane, highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting that it allows JLR to redefine luxury in an environmentally friendly manner. By using Pirelli’s FSC-certified tyres, JLR offers high-quality, high-performance tyres while supporting responsible forest management and protecting communities within the rubber supply chain.
Pirelli’s Head of Sustainability & New Mobility, Matteo Battaini, praised the collaboration, emphasizing the positive impact on local communities and the environment. The partnership not only introduces FSC-certified products but also aims to increase the percentage of sustainable and recycled content in all tyres supplied to JLR, reflecting both companies’ shared sustainability ambitions.
A 2023 FSC survey revealed that 77% of people in the UK recognize the FSC logo, and 71% prefer FSC-certified products, indicating strong consumer support for sustainable practices.
JLR is also enhancing its global sourcing process to evaluate suppliers based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. This effort aims to set new benchmarks for environmental and societal impact in the luxury automotive industry.
JLR’s Reimagine strategy aims for carbon net zero across its supply chain, products, and operations by 2039, with science-based targets to reduce emissions by 2030. Electrification is a key component of this strategy, with plans for fully electric models in the Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender collections by the end of the decade, and Jaguar becoming entirely electric.
JLR operates multiple design, engineering, and manufacturing facilities in the UK, as well as plants in China, Brazil, India, Austria, and Slovakia, and seven technology hubs worldwide. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Limited, part of Tata Sons.
