Jeep Wagoneer S EV Not Rugged Enough? Try the Off-Road Trailhawk Version

With the launch of the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, the iconic Jeep brand embarks on its journey towards full electrification.

To emphasize that the all-electric Wagoneer S SUV maintains the rugged spirit of Jeep, the automaker has introduced a new Trailhawk concept.

This concept, designed to push the sleek and pavement-oriented EV beyond its typical urban environment, gives a glimpse into what a production Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk trim might look like.

This potential model would align with the Trailhawk versions of other Jeeps like the Grand Cherokee and Compass, should Jeep decide to add such an off-road-focused variant to its first-ever EV lineup.

Beyond Just a Badge and Paint

The Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept boldly embraces its off-road aspirations. It features a new suspension system that raises the EV SUV higher off the ground, complemented by Falken Wildpeak A/T tires sized at 265/65R18—measuring 31.8 inches in diameter and 10.5 inches wide. These all-terrain tires are mounted on 18-inch wheels with a multi-piece design, though not beadlock capable, they include hex-head fasteners around the star-shaped face design.

Significant design changes include more aggressive and rugged-looking front and rear fascias, transforming the sleek and modern Wagoneer S into a visually tougher off-roader. The nose’s lower portion is angled upwards to enhance tire clearance, with brutish design elements directing airflow for the tire air curtain. Lower fog lights, appearing machined from aluminum, add to the robust look. The iconic seven-slot Jeep grille and a red-painted tow hook underline its Jeep identity.

At the rear, the Trailhawk retains the Wagoneer S’s distinctive integrated hoop-style wing but features a reshaped rear bumper for better departure clearance. The rear fascia includes another set of tow hooks and a Trailhawk badge on the passenger side of the lift gate alongside the “4xe” logo, signifying its electrified nature. The aluminum roof rack and dual-pane panoramic sunroof provide both functionality and an open-air experience.

Bruce’d and Almighty Ruggedness

The exterior is finished in a distinctive “Bruce” paint with metallic Storm Gray and textured black accents. The hood features an anti-glare black decal with a red hood slat, and the flush badging draws inspiration from modern aircraft design.

Under the hood, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept retains the standard Wagoneer S’s battery and motor system, with specific enhancements unique to the Trailhawk. The Selec-Terrain system now includes a “Rock” mode for improved low-speed traction control, complemented by an electronic rear axle locker for better performance on difficult terrain.

A Meteorite-Like Trim

Inside, the off-road vibe continues with soft surfaces wrapped in synthetic Mantis Green material, accented by real stone veneer inspired by meteorites. Storm dark metallic accents and Radical Red anodizing provide striking contrasts. The instrument panel includes a crossbar for passenger stability, similar to the Jeep Wrangler, with exposed fasteners and threaded inserts for mounting accessories like trail gear and cameras.

Cargo Capable Beyond the Liftgate

The interior features a modular cargo management system with re-configurable elastic straps in the door cards and center console, offering versatile storage options. The flat floor, a benefit of the EV platform, includes a large open storage bin, wireless phone charger, and multiple USB outlets. The steering wheel has an octagonal shape, offering precise steering control with tactical-inspired grip sections. The Trailhawk seats balance sportiness and luxury, with Mantis Green synthetic material, chevron pattern perforation, and Ultraviolet accent stitching.

When Can We Have One?

Currently, the Jeep Wagoneer S Trailhawk is a concept without a set launch date or price. However, it’s unlikely to remain a mere showpiece for long. While some features may not make it to production, the concept is close to being production-ready. Considering Jeep’s established Trailhawk formula, it’s plausible that this off-road variant will join the lineup, potentially adding $5,000 to $10,000 to the base price of $73,790 for the 2024 Wagoneer S.
