A classic Lamborghini Miura P400 SV from 1972, once owned by Jamiroquai’s frontman Jay Kay, is expected to fetch £2.75 million at auction.
This iconic car, celebrated as the first supercar, is a rare gem, with only 150 units ever produced. Its V12 engine enables it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just five seconds, reaching a top speed of 177 mph.
Jay Kay, famous for his extensive car collection, showcased this red Lamborghini on BBC’s Top Gear in 2004, where he took presenter Richard Hammond for a ride.
Reflecting on the car’s legacy, Jay Kay remarked, “This car was so ahead of its time. It’s a wonderful, wonderful thing.”
The Miura P400 SV is not just a piece of automotive history but also part of a legacy of elite ownership, including celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart. This particular model, now being sold by RM Sotheby’s, boasts a storied past.
According to the auction house, the term “supercar” was first associated with the Miura in a 1967 Car magazine article by L.J.K. Setright, who described his experience driving the vehicle from Modena to London in lyrical prose, highlighting the unmatched thrill of the V12 engine.
In the early 1990s, the car was acquired by a collector in Hong Kong, who commissioned a full restoration by the Modena Group. Jay Kay later purchased the vehicle, adding it to his collection of vintage performance cars, and it featured prominently in a memorable Top Gear episode. Afterward, it was owned by British collector Michael Cotter.
The auction is set to take place on June 1 in Toronto, Canada. This sale offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive and celebrity history, reflecting the enduring allure and exceptional craftsmanship of the Lamborghini Miura P400 SV.
