A classic 1964 Aston Martin DB5, a favorite of James Bond fans, is set to go under the hammer in Berkshire.
This British grand tourer, designed by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria, is one of the most coveted classic cars ever made.
The DB5 gained iconic status with its 007 debut in “Goldfinger” and its return in “Thunderball” in 1965.
This particular model, finished in an elegant sage green with a dark green leather interior, is a standout example of the DB5, manufactured in 1964 and one of just 887 units ever produced. As reported by Luxury Auto News, it features a top speed exceeding 150mph, thanks to its 4.0-litre straight-six engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The car also comes with a photographic record of its restoration, further enhancing its desirability among collectors.
The DB5 is being auctioned by Sotheby’s Sealed, with estimates ranging between £425,000 and £475,000.
The auctioneers highlighted the model’s popularity among celebrities, noting former owners such as Sir Paul McCartney, Peter Sellers, Mick Jagger, and Robert Plant.
Delivered new to Aston Martin dealer Brooklands of Bond Street on October 26, 1964, this California Sage example retains its original dealer sticker on the rear window.
Documentation reveals it visited the dealer’s newly opened service and parts department in London for a timing chain modification on May 13, 1965.
An email chain in the car’s history file records correspondence between Graham Searle, founder and former General Manager of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, and dealer Auto-Kinetic, outlining the car’s storied past.
According to the auctioneers, the DB5 was sold to its second owner in South Africa, where it stayed until 1991 before returning to the UK.
Owned by the current vendor since 2007, the car has been meticulously maintained, embodying the quintessential 1960s dream machine. Prospective buyers can register to bid at the auction, which will take place in Taplow, Berkshire.
