The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron sets a new benchmark in aerodynamics with a Cd value of 0.21, making it the most aerodynamic Audi and leading its segment in the VW Group. The A6 Avant e-tron also boasts a remarkable Cd value of 0.24. This exceptional aerodynamic performance is a result of meticulous attention to detail in design and engineering, with over 1,300 simulations and countless hours in the wind tunnel to optimize every aspect.
In terms of design, the A6 e-tron sports a dynamic, elegant body with slim daytime running lights and a wide grille that gives it a low, wide appearance. A distinctive black mask surrounds the closed single frame, integrating the main headlights and functional elements like the ADAS sensors and air intakes. The dynamic roofline, low ride height, and sculptural quattro blisters highlight the car’s sporty stance. A black insert in the sill area emphasizes the battery, creating a visually stretched look. The Avant model features a flat roofline with a steeply sloping D-pillar and an aluminum-look trim piece from the A-pillar to the roof spoiler, enhancing its recognizability.
The rear of the A6 e-tron blends sporty elegance with power, featuring a clean architecture and a continuous three-dimensional light strip. A striking spoiler lip and rear diffuser enhance the sporty and dynamic look. The A6 e-tron measures 4,928 millimeters in length and 2,137 millimeters in width, with a wheelbase of 2,946 millimeters. The Avant model stands 1,527 millimeters high, while the Sportback is 1,487 millimeters high.
The standard 19-inch five-arm dynamic wheels are designed for aerodynamics, with optional 21-inch wheels available in various designs. Up to eight exterior colors are offered, with some exclusive to the S line variant and S model. These colors emphasize the exterior’s powerful and progressive design.
Aerodynamics are a key strength, with the A6 Sportback e-tron achieving a Cd value of 0.21, thanks to optimal basic tuning and numerous detail optimizations. The front features air curtains that improve airflow, and a controllable cool-air intake under the Singleframe reduces losses. The underbody is highly sealed and optimized with components like 3D bumps and specially adapted wheel trims. The rear diffuser and side spoilers enhance aerodynamic performance, while optional virtual exterior mirrors with a flow-optimized shape further reduce drag.
Lighting technology is another highlight, with the A6 e-tron featuring digital light signatures and second-generation digital OLED rear lights. These offer car-to-x communication and improve road safety. The headlights and rear lights have a three-dimensional design, integrating digital and physical elements seamlessly. The active digital light signature, created by an advanced algorithm, provides dynamic lighting effects, enhancing safety and personalization.
The interior of the A6 e-tron is designed for user comfort and functionality. The MMI panoramic display with curved OLED technology includes an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch touch display, forming a digital stage. An optional 10.9-inch front passenger display with Active Privacy Mode allows for entertainment without distracting the driver. The optional augmented reality head-up display projects critical information onto the windshield, enhancing the driving experience.
Materials and design elements in the interior create a homely ambiance, with a “soft wrap” extending across the panel width and clear differentiation between functional areas. The center console offers ample storage, including two cup holders and a cell phone charger. The trunk provides 502 liters of space, expandable to over 1,400 liters in the Avant model. A smart panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency adds to the luxury, using PDLC technology to adjust opacity at the touch of a button.
Infotainment is powered by Android Automotive OS, with over-the-air updates ensuring the latest features. The Audi Application Store offers various apps, and the enhanced e-tron route planner comes as standard. Voice control, integrated with ChatGPT, allows for natural language interaction, making driving more intuitive.
The A6 e-tron boasts impressive range and charging capabilities, with a lithium-ion battery offering up to 756 kilometers on a single charge. The system supports 800-volt technology and a maximum DC charging capacity of 270 kW, enabling rapid recharging. Advanced thermal management and regenerative braking enhance efficiency, while the integrated Brake System (iBS) provides smooth and consistent pedal feel.
Driving dynamics are enhanced by the optional adaptive air suspension, which adjusts to road conditions and optimizes aerodynamics for better range. The rear-biased all-wheel drive system in the S6 e-tron improves handling and stability.
Advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive driving assistant plus and park assist plus, enhance safety and convenience. The A6 e-tron will be available to order from September 2024, with prices starting at 75,600 euros for the A6 Sportback e-tron performance and 99,500 euros for the S6 Sportback e-tron.
The A6 e-tron represents a significant step forward for Audi in the electric vehicle market, combining innovative design, advanced technology, and exceptional performance to set new standards in the upper mid-size segment.
