Marking a significant milestone, Audi unveils the A5 family 30 years after the debut of the first Audi A4. The updated design language of this latest generation captivates with its premium proportions and embodies Audi’s sporty design philosophy in both Sedan and Avant body styles. Inside, a new design language creates a spacious atmosphere, with a focus on digital displays and increased vehicle interaction. The range is rounded out with efficient engines and thrilling S models.

Audi has restructured its vehicle naming system since 2024, with even numbers indicating electric models and odd numbers for combustion engines. This shift aligns with the launch of the latest generation, previously known as the Audi A4, now rebranded as the Audi A5. Produced in Neckarsulm, the A5 is available in four variants: A5 Sedan, S5 Sedan, A5 Avant, and S5 Avant, all debuting on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner highlights the significance of the new A5 family, stating that it represents a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The A5 family features athletic designs, completely revamped interiors, and advanced electronics, enhanced by the MHEV plus technology for partially electric driving and improved efficiency.
The new models are larger and come with expanded standard equipment, positioning the A5 in the upper mid-size segment. The new user experience, based on the E³ electronic architecture version 1.2, supports this elevated positioning, with optional equipment offered in various packages.
The A5’s exterior design is both dynamic and muscular, featuring a long wheelbase, large wheels, and a low, sporty body. The Sedan’s greenhouse stretches compactly to the rear, merging seamlessly into a shallow rear window and ending with a striking spoiler lip on the tailgate. The Avant’s taut roofline integrates into a sporty roof spoiler, emphasizing its dynamic side profile.
At the front, the wide, flat Singleframe grille with a 3D honeycomb structure, flanked by slim headlights, creates a focused and striking look. The “soft nose” bumper design and prominent wheel blisters evoke the iconic Audi Urquattro, reinforcing the brand’s design DNA.
The rear design combines sporty aesthetics with intelligent technology, featuring sculptural geometry and a continuous light strip that adds visual dynamism. The bumper’s modern design with a dark diffuser and high-quality rectangular exhaust tips further enhance the sporty look.
The A5 family introduces new standards in digital lighting with LED daytime running lights and second-generation digital OLED rear lights, enhancing safety and aesthetics with features like the new communication light and dynamic lighting effects.
Inside, the A5’s design focuses on user needs, featuring a Digital Stage with Audi MMI displays, a Material Driven Design for spaciousness and comfort, and Visual Clarity for easy operation. The new operating concept enhances interaction with the vehicle through the E³ electronic architecture.
The Audi MMI panoramic display, with OLED technology, includes an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit, a 14.5-inch touch display, and an optional 10.9-inch front passenger display. The new head-up display offers configurable vehicle and infotainment controls, a first for the A5.
The MHEV plus system, based on a 48-volt electrical system, supports the combustion engine by reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing performance. It allows for partially electric driving, reducing fuel consumption, and enabling features like electric air conditioning when the engine is off.
The A5 family offers a range of efficient engines, from a 2.0 TFSI with 110 kW to the powerful 3.0-litre V6 TFSI in the S5, all featuring the MHEV plus technology. The engines are designed to meet customer expectations for performance, efficiency, and driving experience.
The chassis and steering of the new A5 have been refined for precise and neutral handling, with optional adaptive dampers allowing for a significant differentiation between comfort and sportiness.
As production begins in Neckarsulm, Audi is modernizing and transforming its plants to achieve CO2-neutral production by 2025. The renovated paint shop at Neckarsulm will be one of the most modern in the industry, featuring energy-saving processes and sustainable practices.
Audi is committed to sustainable water use, aiming to halve its ecologically weighted water consumption in production by 2035. The Neckarsulm site utilizes a closed water cycle to reduce fresh water use by up to 70% from 2025.
Automation and digitalization are key in Audi’s “360factory” production strategy, with innovative technologies like augmented reality used for quality control and the highly automated installation of add-on parts ensuring premium quality.
