A New Era in Rally Charging

The new charging setup, developed in partnership with SCHALL-E, introduces a compact, mobile system featuring individual stations for each car, each equipped with a 160 kWh battery storage unit.

These units draw energy from standard low-voltage power supplies, eliminating the need for transformers or high-voltage grid connections.

The result is a system that reduces grid stress, avoids voltage spikes, and supports seamless operations—all while using 100% renewable electricity sourced regionally.

Fast, Consistent, and Team-Friendly

Charging performance is equally impressive. The Opel Corsa Rally Electric, with its 50 kWh battery pack, can now be recharged to 80% in under 25 minutes. This ensures minimal downtime between rally stages.

Additionally, teams can continue service work on the vehicle while it’s charging, making the system as practical as it is sustainable. The infrastructure ensures identical charging conditions for all teams, upholding the fairness critical to one-make racing formats.

Designed for Mobility and Speed

The entire system is built with the nomadic nature of rallying in mind. The compact, modular infrastructure is fully mobile, fitting into just two articulated lorries and requiring only a single day to set up or break down.

With no need for water cooling, simplified cabling, and thinner cables, it’s leaner and more efficient than previous solutions. Importantly, the charging points are not fixed, allowing them to be freely placed according to the layout of each rally site—urban or remote.

Scalable and Sustainable

This modular structure means the system can scale or adapt based on the number of vehicles and specific location needs. It’s tailored not just for performance and logistics but also to align with Opel’s broader sustainability goals, setting a new benchmark for green motorsport infrastructure.

“Our new system is just as powerful as before but far simpler, more efficient, and much easier to manage,” said Jörg Schrott, Head of Opel Motorsport. “Teams don’t need to change a thing. They arrive, plug in, and power flows.”

With this upgrade, Opel isn’t just electrifying rally racing—it’s making a compelling case for sustainable, high-performance EV motorsport that’s ready for the challenges of today and tomorrow.
