But it was also converted for use on land in tanks and at sea and is super powerful with a sitting output of 1,000 bhp rising to over 2,000 bhp.

This post-war engine was manufactured in Glasgow in 1949 – most likely for Canadair Northstar aircraft, and in 2017 was bought as a museum display piece.

It was then given a new lease of life and re-built over the course of two years by a specialist company, Flight Engineering of Leeds.

It is believed that the engine had been ‘inhibited’ – completely covered in a grease-like fluid that had stopped corrosion, meaning it has been completely preserved and is virtually factory-fresh despite being 75 years old.

This astonishing piece of history is part of a bespoke Brian James trailer where it can be fired up, but also easily removed and displayed on its own.

It even has a Hamilton propeller fitted and comes with a stack of manuals and flight engineering information.

The classic engine is set to be sold at the Silverstone Festival by Iconic Auctioneers, as reported by Luxury Auto News and can be viewed in person from Friday 23rd August to Sunday 25th August.

If you’d like to own a masterpiece of engineering, now is your chance.
