Hyundai has introduced its highly anticipated 2025 IONIQ 5 N, the brand’s first all-electric performance vehicle, at AutoMobility LA. This new model exemplifies Hyundai’s vision for electrified performance, combining advanced motorsport technologies with the award-winning Hyundai E-GMP platform. The IONIQ 5 N will be available at Hyundai dealerships starting in March 2024.

José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, expressed confidence in the vehicle’s ability to impress both current Hyundai customers and new buyers with its exceptional performance and technology. The IONIQ 5 N features 641 horsepower (478 kW) with N Grin Boost engaged, thanks to its electric motors, two-stage inverter, and a new 84 kWh battery.

Performance and Technology

The IONIQ 5 N incorporates several exclusive performance features, including N Battery Preconditioning, N Race, N Pedal, N Brake Regen, N Drift Optimizer, N Torque Distribution, N Launch Control, N Grin Boost, N Active Sound+, N e-shift, and Track SOC. These features enhance the car’s capabilities in cornering, racetrack performance, and everyday driving.

Till Wartenberg, vice president and head of N Brand and Motorsport at Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized the car’s development aimed at delivering a fun and engaging driving experience, irrespective of the power source, be it petrol, electric, or hydrogen.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics

The IONIQ 5 N’s body-in-white structure includes 42 additional welding points and extra structural adhesives for increased rigidity. The steering system has been reinforced, and the vehicle is equipped with 21-inch forged aluminum wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires for improved handling. The N Pedal software provides instant throttle response and sharper cornering, while the N Drift Optimizer and Torque Kick Drift functions aid in maintaining desired drift angles and simulate clutch-kick actions.

Advanced Propulsion and Cooling Systems

The IONIQ 5 N’s electric motors deliver up to 641 horsepower with N Grin Boost, facilitated by a two-stage inverter and an 84 kWh battery. The car also features an advanced thermal management system to prevent heat-induced power degradation, crucial for maintaining performance during intense track driving. The system includes enhanced cooling areas, motor oil cooling, and independent radiators for the battery and motor.

Motorsport-Derived Features

N Race optimizes the car for endurance or sprint conditions on the racetrack, while N Brake Regen provides up to 0.6 g of deceleration force, minimizing brake fade. The N e-shift and N Active Sound+ enhance driver engagement by simulating gear shifts and engine sounds, respectively.

Design and Interior

The IONIQ 5 N sports a dynamic design with black trim, a wing-type rear spoiler, and a prominent rear diffuser. It is lower, wider, and longer than the standard IONIQ 5. Inside, the car features N-branded elements, reinforced bucket seats, and an optimized center console for track driving. Sustainable materials are used throughout the interior, including recycled PET yarn and eco-processed leather.
