Hyundai Motor Company is donating eight IONIQ 5 electric vehicles and funds to establish EV-charging infrastructure to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), strengthening its partnership with the world’s largest humanitarian aid organization.

This initiative aims to support WFP’s operations in seven countries—Egypt, Italy, Panama, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, and the UAE—where reliable and sustainable mobility is vital for humanitarian efforts.

At a handover ceremony on November 14 at WFP’s Fleet Center in Dubai, Hyundai and WFP leaders highlighted the significance of integrating electric mobility into humanitarian operations.

Hang-Soo Lee, Senior Vice President at Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized, “This partnership represents our commitment to being an electric mobility partner for the world’s largest humanitarian aid organization.”

The IONIQ 5 deployment showcases Hyundai and WFP’s shared dedication to sustainability, addressing issues like the global food crisis and climate change. According to the latest SOFI report, 757 million people face hunger daily, exacerbated by climate challenges. The eco-friendly vehicles will diversify WFP’s fleet and highlight sustainable practices in humanitarian logistics.

Hyundai is also funding EV-charging infrastructure to support WFP’s energy efficiency goals. This initiative includes setting up charging stations and renewable energy systems in areas where the vehicles will be used, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting greener operations.

This collaboration builds on Hyundai’s ongoing commitment to global sustainability, following its 2020 partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Partnering with WFP aligns with Hyundai’s Progress for Humanity vision, reflecting its dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility in addressing global challenges.
