Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America announces the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 as its first production vehicle, starting in Q4 2024. This new plant will produce all trim lines except the IONIQ 5 N.

SAVANNAH, GA, June 18, 2024 – Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) announced that the first vehicle to be produced at their new Metaplant will be the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5.

The production of this award-winning all-electric SUV will commence in the fourth quarter of this year, with the plant producing all trim lines except the IONIQ 5 N. This facility will eventually be the exclusive site for building IONIQ 5 models for the U.S. market.

“This is a very exciting time for HMGMA,” said Oscar Kwon, president and CEO of HMGMA. “We are in the final phase of construction and are getting ready for the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 to roll off the line. It’s the ideal vehicle for us to start production with.”

Hyundai’s Award-Winning EV Lineup

Hyundai boasts America’s Most Awarded EV Lineup, with the IONIQ 5 earning accolades such as Best Electric SUV, Best EV for the Money, and one of the Best Cars for Families by U.S. News & World Report.

Cars.com named the IONIQ 5 the Best Electric Vehicle for the second consecutive year. Previously, the IONIQ 5 was honored as the 2022 World Car of the Year, 2023 MotorTrend SUV of the Year, and 2022 Car and Driver EV of the Year. It also received the highest TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS).

Sales Success and Incentives

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has seen a significant increase in sales, up 43% so far in 2024, with an 82% surge in May alone. Hyundai recently announced a $7,500 cash rebate for buyers of the 2024 IONIQ 5 in June, while customers who lease the vehicle are eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit.

Significant Investment and Job Creation

Hyundai Motor Group is investing $7.59 billion in the HMGMA, creating 8,500 direct jobs. Additionally, Hyundai and SK On are constructing a $5 billion EV battery cell plant in Bartow County, Georgia, which will employ 3,500 workers. A study by the Center for Automotive Research estimates that Hyundai’s investments in Georgia will generate nearly 40,000 jobs and $4.6 billion in individual earnings annually.

Future Production at the Metaplant

The Metaplant will eventually produce vehicles for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia. More vehicle models to be manufactured at the plant will be announced in the future.
