Hyundai Motor Group has officially launched Pleos, its new mobility software brand, during the Pleos 25 developer conference in Seoul, marking a major step toward transforming into a cloud-based mobility tech company.

The brand underpins Hyundai’s software-defined vehicle (SDV) strategy, laying the groundwork for a fully connected mobility ecosystem that integrates vehicles, infrastructure, and smart services.

Pleos is built on a comprehensive tech stack that includes Hyundai’s proprietary vehicle operating system, the Pleos Connect infotainment system, and cloud infrastructure.

To support app development, Hyundai introduced Pleos Playground, an open platform that allows third-party developers to build and distribute in-vehicle apps.

With SDKs, APIs, design guides, and plug-and-play capabilities for external hardware, the platform is set to diversify the in-car app ecosystem and attract innovation from developers worldwide.

Hyundai also announced the Next Urban Mobility Alliance (NUMA) — a public-private partnership aimed at reshaping urban transport.

NUMA will address social challenges like mobility inequality and climate change, using solutions such as demand-responsive transport (DRT) platforms like Shucle, autonomous EVs through the Autonomous Vehicle Foundry (AVF), and inclusive, cloud-powered transit tools.

Global partners including Google, Samsung, Naver, Uber, SOCAR, and Unity are teaming up to expand the capabilities of Pleos.

These collaborations range from Google integrating AAOS and AI services, to Samsung connecting vehicles with SmartThings smart home tech, and Unity introducing real-time 3D entertainment for in-car environments.

The Group also confirmed plans to introduce Level 2+ autonomous driving by 2027, using AI-powered systems that combine cameras, radar, and deep learning for smarter real-time decisions.

Hyundai aims to evolve these vehicles into “learning machines” through enhanced neural processing units and large-scale model training.

At the Pleos 25 event, developers got hands-on with SDKs and cloud APIs, explored next-gen SDV architecture, and tested in-car apps in demo zones.

The event showcased Hyundai’s open software approach and its commitment to building a global developer community around mobility innovation.

Through Pleos and its SDx (software-defined everything) strategy, Hyundai is laying the foundation for a fully connected, intelligent transportation future where mobility solutions adapt seamlessly across users, cities, and services.
