Hyundai Motor America is making a bold statement in performance EV motorsports by partnering with Grassroots Motorsports magazine for the 2025 Tire Rack One Lap of America, where it will campaign the high-powered all-electric 2025 IONIQ 5 N SUV.
Simultaneously, Hyundai has been named the official automaker of this year’s edition of the grueling street-legal racing marathon, now in its 41st year.
Running from May 3 to May 10, the 2025 One Lap will see 86 teams competing in 17 events across nine racetracks, covering over 2,700 miles of U.S. roads in just eight days.

Veteran racers Andy Hollis and Tom Suddard will drive the No. 44 IONIQ 5 N in the Alternative Fuels class. With 601 horsepower and an EV setup fine-tuned for track performance—featuring robust battery conditioning, sharp handling, and powerful braking—the IONIQ 5 N aims to prove that modern EVs can dominate both the highway and the racetrack without compromise.

This marks the first time either driver has entered an electric vehicle in One Lap. Hollis, a seasoned SCCA Solo national champion with 10 One Lap class victories, praised the IONIQ 5 N for delivering “massive torque” and real track-readiness straight from the factory. Suddard, publisher of Grassroots Motorsports, highlighted the car’s dual nature: blisteringly fast yet road trip-comfortable, calling it “the best of all worlds.”

Hyundai’s involvement extends beyond the race car. As the event’s official automaker, it is supplying three 2025 Palisades, two 2025 Santa Fe Hybrids, and a 2025 Santa Cruz to support event staff throughout the journey.
The challenge, founded by legendary auto journalist Brock Yates, is known for testing the limits of both vehicles and teams under real-world, high-stakes conditions.

This partnership and vehicle debut align with Hyundai’s broader U.S. presence and electrification strategy. With advanced R&D centers, domestic manufacturing, and a growing lineup of EVs, Hyundai continues to reinforce its commitment to performance, innovation, and endurance on and off the track.
