The 2024 race saw the Hyundai Elantra N TCR team achieve a historic 1-2-3 finish in the TCR class. The victorious Team Americas, comprised of drivers Filippi, Gottsacker, Morris, and Wilkins, crossed the finish line after completing 44 laps of the 25km track. Team Europe, with drivers Mikel Azcona, Marc Basseng, and Manuel Lauck, finished second, and Team China, featuring Hongwei Cao, Zhang Zhendong, Rainey He, and Andy Yan, took third place.

The weekend began positively for Bryan Herta Autosport’s Morris, who secured the class pole position with a superb lap in the final qualifying session on Friday. The race started with Team Europe’s Lauck taking an early lead in slippery conditions, demonstrating his experience at the Nordschleife. However, a driveshaft change forced the team into the garage, dropping them from the lead to third place. Despite a strong recovery effort, the race’s premature end due to lingering fog cemented their second-place finish.

Julien Moncet, Hyundai Motorsport Circuit Race Project Manager: “We knew that a 1-2-3 finish in class for our Elantra N TCR teams was possible if we avoided mistakes and brought the cars to the finish. Mason, Harry, Bryson, and Mark of Team Americas in the #831 had a very consistent race which was the key to their success in the end. Manuel Lauck had an amazing first stint in mixed conditions to start building a good lead, but a technical issue cost us valuable time. Team China did an excellent job, even as the least experienced lineup. Despite the weather challenges, achieving a historic 1-2-3 in the TCR class is a huge accomplishment.”

Bryson Morris, Team Americas: “We were able to take the win with the #831 Elantra N TCR for Team Americas. It was a difficult weekend, coming back for a second weekend in the TCR car at the Nürburgring. Setting the pole time in Qualifying 3 was a great achievement, and despite challenging conditions during the race, we managed to secure the victory.”

Marc Basseng, Team Europe: “We had a really good start and extended our lead to nearly eight minutes. Unfortunately, a driveshaft issue set us back, but we were able to fight our way back into contention. The fog ultimately prevented us from reclaiming the lead, but finishing 1-2-3 for Hyundai Motorsport is a significant achievement.”

Andy Yan, Team China: “The Nürburgring 24 Hours is the toughest race in the world, and this year’s weather made it even more challenging. Despite the conditions, we managed to secure a podium finish and contribute to the 1-2-3 result for Hyundai Motorsport.”
