This initiative showcases the future of energy resilience and sustainability, proving that electric vehicles can do more than just drive—they can power homes and support the grid.
GM’s PowerShift 19.2 kW bidirectional charger and V2H Bundle enable Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, ensuring GM EVs can seamlessly integrate into home energy systems.
Beyond home backup power, this technology lays the foundation for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) applications, where EV batteries can send energy back to the grid during peak demand, helping prevent blackouts and lower energy costs.
Future programs could create a virtual power plant, using thousands of plugged-in EVs to stabilize the grid during extreme weather or high-energy consumption periods.
GM Energy is working with utilities nationwide to explore bidirectional charging, energy security, and EV adoption, reinforcing the shift toward a decentralized, flexible, and renewable-powered future. The PG&E pilot is just the beginning—the future of EVs as an energy resource is happening now.
